Dani can't sleep. Again. She rarely does, here. It stays too bright too late and it screws with her body clock. So she lies awake in bed, staring at the wall and trying not to think too hard about anything.
"Dani?" It's whispered, as 'Einar' appears in her doorway. Looking solid enough to be real.
Nevermind that it's an illusion, as Loki is outside keeping watch carefully. With a horse--as he'll need to move quickly. They have night for so short a time here, and he needs that cover of darkness to make this easier.
"Not if we're to take advantage of what darkness there is." Einar hissed back. "It's time for me to leave. I came to see if you've decided to stay, or to go."
If Einar is surprised, he doesn't show it. Instead just takes a step back to vanish in her doorway with a shimmer of green. Outside, in the twilight the precedes what little night there will be, Loki smiled.
He'd hoped she'd choose to come with him, although he was refusing to examine all his reasons why he hoped that. In its simplest form, it was because she could be so much more than what the Hårga wanted for her. Or so he'd come to believe from talking with her. He also felt a mild debt to her, for her understanding and kindness as he'd been grieving too.
With the illusion gone however, when she stepped outside he moved to meet her. With the reins of a horse, saddled and ready to ride following him. "We'll have to move quickly. I have a ship parked off the coast through the forest."
"Have you ridden before?" Einar can't help but smile at her bravery. (Or her determination to get away.) "If not, then just hold on. The horse and I will handle the rest"
Einar helps where he can, but shakes his head in amusement. "I could've helped you more, you know." Teasing her, before he mounts in front of her. "Now, arms around my waist, and just hold on. We'll be going slowly in the forest while it is dark, but then more swiftly once it's light again."
Honestly, he'd have worried if she didn't have regrets. But Loki, as Einar, had done what he could to help her see all that the Hårga were. As much as he'd been able to, while not making enemies. But even his snooping could only go unnoticed for so long, which is why he was leaving.
And had left the choice to her, if she wanted to come with. Loki'd found no need to manipulate Dani the way the others had. If anything, he felt he owed her some kindnesses for her own compassion towards him with their grief.
There's a short exclamation from him, quietly loud in the twilight, and the horse moves off at a quick walk. Heading for the forest and out and away from the village. As he'd said, all Dani had to do was hold on. His posture was easy and steady on the horse, experienced. The scents of wind and not-quite-night, along with a hint of wintergreen and spice, were easy to pick up even with Dani's face buried against his shoulders.
As it continued to darken, they entered the forest. Einar--Loki--reached out a hand to conjure a green mage light, but let the horse pick her way. Even at a walk of the horse in the dark they moved faster than they would on foot.
She can't remember the last time she's slept so well. Tangled up with Loki, her head against his chest. She'd only meant to take a short nap, but with no alarm and feeling so warm and comfortable and safe, she'd managed to sleep all the way through the night.
Now she stirs awake, little by little, making a contented noise and nuzzling at the hollow of Loki's throat.
Loki had woken a few times just enough to assess where he was, and then gone back to sleep. Dozing, as Dani stirred awake, enjoying the tangle and affection and not eager to leave it all. He chuckled though, with Dani's actions, murmuring teasingly against her hair. "Keep that up, and I'll think you like me or something."
"S'comfortable," she mumbles from somewhere against Loki's chest, voice clogged with sleep. She sighs and burrows closer, if that's possible, and wraps an arm tightly around his waist. It's the best sleep she's had in years, honestly.
"I tend to sleep well when I have company, usually because of pleasant exhaustion." It was and was not an answer. Still, Loki wasn't protesting her burrowing closer against him at all. He chuckled a bit with the action, mouth still against her hair.
Dani feels herself blush at the realization of what his comment means and she bites her lip. Unsure quite how to answer. It's been -- a very long while since she's been worn out for that reason. She wouldn't mind... no, she shouldn't let her thoughts wander in that direction.
"Good. Hopefully it'll stay that way until you have the excuse of good night time exertions." He was definitely teasing her. Truthfully Loki wouldn't have minded the direction her thoughts were going--he was private, but certainly not a prude nor opposed to casual relationships.
He had also already made clear to Dani that he expected nothing like that as any kind of reward. Should they pursue it, let it be because they wanted to. Not out of obligation or guilt or anything.
The back of her neck feels hot, and she strokes her fingers over Loki's arm. Then up to touch his cheek. Nuzzling under his chin. "Why. Do you plan on setting me up with someone?" Her tone is clearly teasing. Light, amused. Playful.
Oh, so they were playing that game were they? Did Dani really know what she was getting into? For that matter, Loki had a moment of pause to think if he really wanted to play this game with her... He had made it clear that he expected nothing in return. But if she actually wanted something?
"Not at the moment, though if someone catches your eye and you'd prefer I play wingman so to speak, I can. I could also be decoy boyfriend to make someone jealous." Ever a trickster.
That light touch had been very nice through the linen of his shirt. Tilting his head slightly against her touch, with his mouth still against her hair.
"Just a decoy?" She feels bold enough to say something like that. Loki makes her feel bold like that. It's a nice feeling, really, this boldness. This flirtatiousness.
Her fingers stroke his jaw, down over his throat. Her breath catching slightly.
"...do you want something other than a decoy?" Oh that was very nice yes. Leaning into her touch more. A soft noise in his throat and chest, enjoying that clearly.
"With you?" She lifts her head a little to press a kiss to his chin. Not out of any sense of obligation or guilt or anything like that, no. But because she wants to. Because it feels good.
Oh Loki almost melted at that little kiss. He'd already been leaning into her touches, savoring the affection. It was so very very tempting to just throw caution out and follow his impulses and her lead.
But he also cared about her--she was perhaps his first true friend who was all his. "Don't do this because you think you have to, Dani." It was almost pleading, and was definitely a warning.
For Loki

Willing herself to fall asleep.

Perhaps she shouldn't be surprised by anything at this point, but Einar conjuring up a light is a new kind of bizarre.
