CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Dani Ardor
Canon: Midsommar
Canon point: Post-film
Age: Twenty-seven
History: Information on Dani can be found here
Suitability: Dani does come from a horror movie canon, but I feel it is her guilt and tendency to blame herself for things beyond her control that make her suitable for Rhodos. This is a game that plays off of fear and regret, and Dani has more than enough to spare. The way her guilt constantly haunts her, from the very start of the film up until the very end, makes sense with what the focus of Rhodos is.
Is this a re-app? No

MANIFESTATION
Character flaws/traumas:
- Extreme guilt: Dani constantly blames herself for everything that happens around her, even if the situation is out of her control or not her fault in the least. For example, she blames herself for everything to do with her and Christian's relationship, despite the fact that he constantly gaslights and emotional manipulates her. She blames herself for her family's death, even though she did everything she could to reach out to her sister and her parents. Every fight that she has, she automatically apologizes for it. Deep down, though it was out of her control, she blames herself for how Josh and Mark died. She did have a hand in Christian's death, and for that she will never forgive herself.

- The death of her family: Her older sister, Terri, was bipolar and would often have episodes of deep depression where she would send cryptic messages to Dani. Although Dani tried to look out for her sister, alerting her parents whenever she received such messages, Terri ended up killing both herself and their parents. Afterwards, whenever the event was brought up or someone talked about family in general, it would send her spiraling into severe panic attacks. Screaming, crying, but doing the best she could to calm herself down. Dani also went through a period of depression following her sister's death, taking a hiatus from school and rarely going out unless it was with her boyfriend, Christian.

- The events of Midsommar: Although a great part of her felt at home in Hårga, and welcomed and accepted by the the people there, there were many things that contributed to Dani's trauma in Sweden. First, there was the ritual suicide of the elders who, since they had turned 72, had lived out their lives and had to jump off a cliff in order to end their lives. When the elder man survived the jump, his head was smashed in with a mallet. Secondly, there was the "pretend" sacrifice of a child, who was wrapped in chains and about to be thrown into the water. Dani spoke out against it, and everyone assured her it was just for show. Finally, after becoming May Queen, Dani witnessed the ritual sacrifice of her friends, Josh and Mark, alongside members of the community. She herself chose Christian as the last sacrifice, and watched him be stuffed into the carcass of a bear and burned alive.

Manifestation name: The Bear
Character trait(s) the Manifestation reflects: Extreme guilt, the events at Hårga.
Description: A massive grizzly bear, perpetually engulfed in flames. The flames have burnt off part of its fur and flesh in places, leaving bits of skull and raw muscle exposed. Where the flames have burned it the worst, flowers continuously grow and turn to ash, only to regrow and start the cycle over again. It leaves flowers in its wake, covering everything its paws touch in wildflowers. Its roars sound almost human
Attacks and behavior: The Bear attacks as any normal bear would, by charging and swiping. Its attacks, however, leave behind an almost Hanahaki effect. If it touches you, flowers sprout in that place. If it manages to wound you, flowers will grow from the wound. These aren't merely surface level flowers; the roots go deep, and are extremely painful for anyone who has to endure them. The flowers disappear during monthly resets, but return at the start of Fog Days. A reminder that The Bear is never completely gone.

Path towards resolution: Dani will need to learn to forgive herself for the deaths that aren't her fault, and accept the fact that she chose Christian's death. Her guilt will continue to haunt her until she is able to forgive herself. The problem is, is that once she accepts that she had a hand in Christian's death, even though she was manipulated into it, her guilt will only compound and worsen. It may become impossible to untangle. But perhaps making the right friends, being around the right people who aren't trying to control and manipulate her, she can start to heal.
